## The decision starts with where the message arrives

Sendblue and Twilio can both appear on a business messaging shortlist, but the deciding requirement is the customer’s channel. Sendblue markets native iMessage delivery. Twilio’s published Messaging Channels catalog lists SMS, MMS, RCS, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger; it does not list native iMessage. An SMS delivered to an iPhone is still SMS.

Start with a single sentence: “Our customers need to receive this conversation through \_\_\_, and our team will answer in \_\_\_.” A requirement for blue-bubble iMessage narrows the channel choice. A requirement for a broad SMS program starts a different evaluation. This is Miss Blue’s editorial comparison of public documentation, checked September 13, 2026; we have not run a delivery benchmark between the vendors.

## Compare the production workflow

Use the same destination mix, business-initiated messaging requirement, and team workflow for each trial. A plan that only lets customers start conversations cannot validate a proactive sales workflow.

Swipe across the table to see every column.

Evaluation questions for your trial; exact access depends on the purchased product and plan.
| Decision | Sendblue evaluation | Twilio evaluation |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Channel | Validate native iMessage and documented fallback for your contacts | Select SMS, RCS, or another documented channel and its sender requirements |
| Who starts | Confirm outbound rights for the contracted tier | Confirm sender onboarding and permitted use for the chosen channel |
| Budget unit | Dedicated lines and plan entitlements | Segments/messages, destinations, numbers, and additional charges |
| Team replies | Demonstrate your inbox or CRM integration | Choose the agent workspace or build the required workflow |
| Migration | Confirm whether your specific number can move | Confirm the new sender configuration before routing traffic |

## A flat line price and a segment rate answer different questions

Sendblue’s pricing page lists $100/month for an inbound-first AI Agent line and a custom Enterprise tier for full outbound and multiple dedicated lines. That $100 figure is useful only when the workflow qualifies. The detailed Sendblue pricing guide covers its plan boundaries and the conflicting public statements about free sandbox webhooks.

Twilio’s U.S. SMS pricing page lists $0.0083 per outbound long-code SMS segment at the entry rate. Carrier fees, number charges, and applicable registration costs sit outside that base rate; inbound traffic also has a price. Country, sender type, encoding, message length, and volume affect the estimate. These published figures are a dated starting point for a quote, not a total monthly bill.

## Work one hypothetical month through both models

Suppose an appointment team sends 2,000 SMS messages containing one billable segment each, with no inbound traffic included in this first subtotal. At $0.0083, the outbound base is 2,000 × $0.0083 = $16.60. If every message instead occupies two billable segments, that subtotal becomes $33.20. Neither subtotal includes carrier fees, number rental, registration, replies, or staff software.

For Sendblue, first ask whether these appointment messages are replies to customer-initiated conversations or business-initiated reminders. An outbound reminder program needs the appropriate written quote. Putting $100 into that column before establishing entitlement would create a misleading comparison. Record unknowns as unknowns until the vendor answers them.

Add the implementation cost of contact matching, event storage, your team’s reply surface, support, and reconciliation. Spread one-time setup over the expected contract term, then run the worksheet again at a peak week. This exercise can favor either service depending on the channel and workflow; it is not evidence that one is universally cheaper.

## Keep each provider’s event contract separate

Create one adapter per provider and translate verified events into your own message record. Do not copy a webhook signature scheme from one service to another. Twilio documents status callbacks and recommends its SDK signature validation; callback order is not guaranteed. Preserve the provider message identifier and process state updates without letting an older event erase newer evidence.

A delivery receipt and an inbound reply are separate events in your business model. A successful API request should not mark a lead as contacted by a person. Keep acceptance, delivery, available read evidence, and actual replies visible separately so sales and engineering interpret the same numbers.

06

## Migrate with one active sender for each workflow

Inventory the old number, channel, contact mappings, blocked destinations, queued sends, event endpoints, and CRM owners. Decide whether the number can move or customers will see a new identity. A CRM export by itself does not answer number ownership or portability.

Exercise the adapter in a simulator, then run a controlled live trial with internal contacts. At cutover, stop new enrollment on the old route and explicitly drain or cancel pending work before enabling the new sender for that workflow. Keep receiving old-route events long enough to reconcile messages already submitted. Do not let both systems independently send the same reminder.

07

## Make the final choice from observed requirements

Choose a shortlist around your required channel, who can initiate the conversation, and the team’s actual reply surface. Record which claims were demonstrated, which are documented, and which remain commercial commitments. A developer demo does not settle number recovery, contract changes, or who answers a failed-delivery incident.

If you need an iMessage line with a shared inbox and API, include Miss Blue in that evaluation. Use the same scenario and cost worksheet for us. The right outcome is a system your team can operate, with clear ownership when a reply, timeout, or handoff occurs.

Frequently asked questions

## Quick answers

Does Twilio send blue-bubble iMessages?+

Twilio’s current Messaging Channels catalog does not list native iMessage. SMS sent to an iPhone remains SMS. Verify the exact product contract if a seller claims otherwise.

Is Sendblue cheaper than Twilio?+

There is no universal answer. Compare the eligible Sendblue plan with Twilio’s complete cost for your destinations, segments, replies, number type, and supporting software.

Can we keep the same number during migration?+

Confirm portability and ownership for the specific number with both providers. Contact or message export does not establish that the sender number can move.
