Scheduled messages

Write a message now, pick when it goes out, and change your mind any time before then. It leaves from your own number like anything else you send.

Your timezone, stated

The zone is shown next to the time you pick and stored with the message, so 9am means the 9am you meant even if you are travelling when it sends.

Checked when it sends, not when you write it

Blocks, opt-outs, rate limits and new-contact limits are all applied at the moment it goes out. Somebody who replies STOP tomorrow will not receive the message you scheduled today.

Variables

{{contact.name}} fills in their name, and {{contact.name|"there"}} falls back when you do not have one. Dates and times mean the moment it sends.

Up to a year ahead

With at least thirty seconds' notice. Anything sooner than that should just be sent.

Editing and cancelling

Both work right up until it sends. Once it has gone it cannot be edited into something else or unsent, and the list keeps saying what actually went out rather than what you would have preferred.

When one does not send

It says why, in the same words you would have seen sending it by hand: the recipient opted out, the number left the project, the line is not connected. “It did not send” is not an answer anybody can act on.

A reply does not cancel a scheduled message. Somebody answering “thanks” to your last text has not cancelled tomorrow’s appointment reminder, and silently dropping it would be worse than sending it. Cancel it yourself if the reply changed things.

Quiet hours

On by default: a scheduled message reaches its recipient only between 8am and 9pm in their time, or tighter where their state requires it. Pick a time that is night where they are and it goes at their morning instead; the list shows when it will really go, marked “their morning”. Their time comes from their area code.

Untick Quiet hours for a message that belongs outside them — an alert to your own on-call engineer, a reminder somebody asked for at six in the morning. With it off, a time outside 8am–9pm in your own zone shows a warning rather than being refused. How quiet hours work.
